Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Springfield MO
309 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2019

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 300 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2019

Another hot and humid day is occurring with heat index values
at/above 100 degrees F in most areas. The south central Missouri
Ozarks are a little cooler, but not much. No changes are planned
for the heat headlines through Sunday. The good news is that
Sunday should be the last day of excessive heat
warnings/advisories in this string.

Guidance continues to show a sfc cold front moving into central
MO and southeast KS Sunday evening then moving through the rest of
the forecast area Sunday night and early Monday. It looks dry
through the day Sunday with hot/humid conditions. Showers/tstms
will become likely Sunday night into early Monday. PWATs are
progged to increase to near two inches along the front and we
could see some downpours Sunday night and have added a
limited/brief flooding risk to the hazardous weather outlook.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 300 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2019

Rain will linger into Monday, especially over far southern MO.
Cooler temperatures with a less humid modified Canadian air mass
will move into the region with dry weather expected for much, if
not all, of the rest of the week. An upper level ridge will
develop over the western CONUS with a large area of sfc high
pressure moving through the U.S. Midwest. The sfc high will then
shift off to the east by Fri with a warming trend into next
weekend.

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Sunday afternoon)
Issued at 1226 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2019

High pressure remains over the region and will bring mostly clear
skies and VFR flight conditions to the area. Surface winds will
continue to be southerly and breezy through the daylight hours
dropping off after dark.
